Some of my favorite things about living in the North Carolina Triangle include the short drives to beautiful NC lakes, beaches, and the abundance of NC caught seafood sold in markets and integrated into various restaurant menus. During my time here in NC, I have been introduced to a variety of shellfish that are native to the NC coast and that are absolutely delicious. On Friday March 9th, I plan to relish in an assortment of NC raised and NC caught seafood at the Cultured Seafood Festival in New Bern, NC. The Cultured Seafood Festival’s 30th year, promises to be the biggest one, yet, and it will be held at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center from 6 PM to 9 PM. The convention center is located at 203 S. Front Street New Bern, N.C. 28560. If you live in the Triad, New Bern is an approximately two-hour and ten minute road trip. Plan to leave about 3 PM or earlier to ensure you do not get stuck in Friday traffic.
The all you can eat feast will feature a variety of aquaculture raised seafood including North Carolina mountain trout, oysters, crab cakes, clams, tilapia, hybrid striped bass, crawfish and catfish. What is aquaculture? Well, it is the business of breeding, rearing, and harvesting of plants and animals in all types of water environments including ponds, rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Our NC prides itself as being one of the most respected states in this industry.
If you are a Foodie or seafood lover, you will not want to miss the Cultured Seafood Festival.
The festival will offer a fun and family friendly environment with an abundance of seafood that will be prepared by Chef James “Smoke” Boyd, one of New Bern’s top chefs and owner of The Flame. Tickets are $50 per person and are available online.
