This Agua del Día Recipe was inspired by H-E-B’s agua fresca of the same name. Keep scrolling for the full recipe!
If you are not familiar with H-E-B, it is a Texas grocery store chain with more than 340 store locations in Texas and northeast Mexico. While H-E-B grocery stores vary by region, the stores located in the Rio Grande Valley are curated with an array of Mexican products. Select Rio Grande Valley H-E-B’s are beloved by the community for offering freshly made authentic Mexican delicacies like aguas frescas, tamales, barbacoa, tortillas and more.
In addition to traditional aguas frescas like Agua de Tamarindo and Agua de Horchata, H-E-B offers their own specialty flavors like Agua del Día. Recently, I had a craving for this non-alcoholic libation that is laden with a medley of fruits. While I do not have H-E-B’s original recipe, I tried my best to create a copy cat recipe.
Before you scroll down to the recipe, please read the following important tips. Agua del Día must be served chilled. That said, I recommend using chilled ingredients to make the beverage. In addition to using chilled ingredients, it is also important to use ripe fruit. Using fruit at its optimum maturity will impart the best flavor and add a natural sweetness to the drink.
Now that we have covered these important tips, let’s make this Agua del Día Recipe!
Agua del Día Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cantaloupe
- 14 oz chilled sweetened condensed milk
- 12 oz chilled evaporated milk
- 16 oz chilled water
- 2 cups strawberries
- 2 large bananas
- 3 cups ice
- ½ cup white granulated sugar optional
Instructions
- Cut cantaloupe into bite size cubes and set aside.
- Reserve 2-3 strawberries for garnish. Clean and hull the remaining strawberries. Halve the strawberries and set aside.
- Add the following to a blender: bite size cantaloupe, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and water. Blend on a high speed for about 45 seconds to one minute.
- Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the cantaloupe mixture. Discard the excess cantaloupe pulp that cannot be strained.
- Add the strained cantaloupe mixture, strawberry halves and one large banana to the blender. Blend on a high speed for roughly 45 seconds to one minute.
- Optional: Once the beverage is fully combined, use a spoon to sample the drink. The condensed milk should add a lovely sweetness. However, should you desire a sweeter beverage, like I do, add white granualted sugar in ¼ cup increments. Stir the sugar and sample the sweetness. If needed, add another ¼ cup of sugar. Do not add more than ½ cup of sugar to this beverage. Since strawberries impart both a tart and sweet flavor, I do add ½ cup of sugar to my Agua del Día.
- I hope that you enjoy my copy cat recipe of H-E-B's Agua del Día. It is one of my favorite aguas frescas made by the grocery store. Serve the drink on ice and garnish with the remaining sliced strawberries and banana.

Even though it has been a while since I last sampled this lovely drink, I have a keen memory of its flavor. Before cantaloupe and strawberry season ends, I hope to make this recipe again.
