While this Homemade Balsamic Glaze recipe isn’t always in my refrigerator, I always have a bottle of balsamic vinegar in stock. I use the vinegar often in salad dressings. Scroll down for all the info on the glaze I make with balsamic vinegar!
Occasionally, I like to reduce the balsamic vinegar to create a beautifully thick Balsamic Glaze. Aside from the thickness, the glaze has a lovely depth that pairs well with a Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad, Tomato Basil Mozzarella Salad or a Watermelon Basil Salad.
As a recipe and food blogger, I do all that I can to reduce waste and eliminate spoilage by maximizing all of the ingredients that I have in my refrigerator or pantry. That said, before you buy a Balsamic Glaze for your next recipe, check your refrigerator for balsamic vinegar. I have an easy recipe that requires one ingredient and a little patience.
Now that I have shared how easy it is to make this Homemade Balsamic Glaze, let’s get to the recipe!
Homemade Balsamic Glaze Recipe
Ingredients
- 16.9 oz balsamic vinegar
Instructions
- In a one quart sauce pan, reduce balsamic vinegar on medium heat for one hour and 15 minutes. The vinegar will reduce by ⅓ of the original volume.
- Cool to room temperature and pour into a clean mason jar. Seal with an airtight lid.
- Chill the reduction overnight to thicken the glaze. After chilling the balsamic reduction, your balsamic glaze is ready to use as needed! The glaze can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two months.
While the volume of the balsamic vinegar reduces by one-third, the glaze is sufficient for a party of six or six individual servings. If you need a larger amount of glaze, consider doubling this homemade balsamic vinegar recipe. It is cost-efficient, especially if you make use of the balsamic vinegar that is currently in your refrigerator.
I hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as I do! This Balsamic Glaze pairs beautifully with my Watermelon Basil Goat Cheese Salad Recipe. While the glaze is easy to make, it must be made ahead of time. If you enjoy making your own salad dressings at home, you will also enjoy my Lime Mint Dressing. Click here for the recipe.
