Tupelo Honey Café, located on 425 Oberlin in Raleigh, is a great addition to the beautiful Cameron Village which is home to one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants and cafes. Although, I have not had the pleasure of visiting any of the other Tupelo locations, I was quite impressed by the décor used in the restaurant which nicely represents the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area with their selection of diverse artworks. Alumni of North Carolina State University, Duke University and The University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will also be pleased with the representation of these schools at Tupelo. I have included a couple of pictures of the art pieces, but the pictures do not do them justice. Not only should you visit this restaurant for their Southern comfort food, but you must also experience and indulge in these beautiful works of art. I highly encourage all patrons to observe the art works, architecture and the honeycomb motif that can be seen throughout the restaurant.
Aside from being mesmerized by the wonderful artwork, I must share that Tupelo Honey Café Bar, The Pickled Okra, makes several fine hand crafted cocktails. My favorite is the The Tupelo-Ritaville Margarita. The cocktail incorporates Margaritaville tequila, Tupelo Honey-liqueur, house-made fresh sweet & sour all served in a chili-salt rim. As a Texan, its very hard to find a quality Margarita outside the Lonestar State. However, The Pickled Okra mixologist scores an A++ with their rendition of this classic cocktail. Another honorable mention is the Violet Beauregarde Champagne Cocktail which uses TOPO vodka, St. Germaine, blueberry puree, fresh mint, fresh lemon and sparkling wine. I saw these being made and I found it to be a beautiful art process as well. Not only were these beautiful and classy, but they were delicious as well.
Tupelo focuses on fresh, made from scratch southern cuisine. When I think comfort food, buttermilk biscuits come to mind and Tupelo has IT….and brings IT with these biscuits. I have described their biscuits as fluffy clouds of goodness bathing in a pool of blueberry deliciousness. I could eat biscuits alone at Tupelo and leave completely satisfied. Tupelo pays great homage to one of the North Carolina state berries with this blueberry jam. I did not ask, yet, but I am hoping they jar and sell this jam….and maybe the biscuits, too…..
I would like to thank the staff at Tupelo Honey Café for graciously extending an invite to their art unveiling and their Friends & Family event. There is no doubt that this restaurant will have great success.
