This experience is the best thing that has happened to me all week. A burger you say? Well, despite my love for fine wine & fine dining, I am a cheeseburger, fries and shake girl at heart. If one food could summarize the one happy place I had as a child, it would be the cheeseburger. During my visit at Durham’s Smashburger, I sampled both the classic Smashburger, the Spicy Jalapeno Baja Burger and their holy cow fantastic milkshakes!
The Baja burger quenched my adventurous side. I’m not a “vanilla” kind of girl, so my food picks are always on the spicy or adventurous side and the Spicy Jalapeño Baja Burger did it for me. Now don’t underestimate the classic smash burger. The bread was soft and fresh as though it had just been baked. The meat was cooked perfectly and the veggies were fresh, crisp and vibrant. This burger just took me to a happy place… and suddenly I was ten again. Kudos to all the sides, which included the onion haystack and sweet potato fries…however, my hands-down favorite are the SMASHFRIES. These were string fries drizzled with olive oil and tossed with rosemary and salt. Not only did the Smashburger team offer a nice sampling of their burgers and sides, but I also indulged in a handspun milkshake. I sampled the vanilla and peanut butter and jelly shake. One word…GENIUS. I personally have no shame in admitting I enjoy a good PB&J sandwich with a tall glass of milk. Now imagine that as a hand spun milkshake? Well all I can say is… I am not trading this PB&J at the playground. Thanks to the Smashburger staff for kindly hosting Food Diary of City Girl. The staff was attentive and very helpful to offer up excellent suggestions. I look forward to dining there again.
