Simply Crêpes’ Rugby Crêpe to Be Featured on the Food Network
The Best Thing I Ever Ate
The Food Network show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, features celebrity chefs and Food Network hosts describing their favorite dishes to eat during their free time and at their own expense. Each episode focuses on a specific food category. Some of my favorite episodes from previous seasons include The Best Thing I Ever Ate “Bar-B-Que”, “Crazy Good”, and “Street Food”.
The Rugby Crêpe
The Rugby Crêpe caught the attention of chef, writer and restaurateur Fabio Viviani, who was voted “Fan Favorite” in Bravo’s reality series, Top Chef Season 5. The dish is Simply Crêpes homage to the fast food classic, the McDonald’s Big Mac. The crêpe is filled with shaved Angus steak, homemade Russian dressing, lettuce, pickles, and sautéed onions. All of the ingredients are carefully enveloped in a crêpe garnished with sharp cheddar cheese and topped with sesame seeds. Bacon lovers, like me, have the option to add applewood bacon to the already scrumptious dish. While crêpes are often rolled with a filling or are folded flat in the shape of a triangle, and subsequently topped with a sauce, I love how the Rugby Crêpe surrounds its components to almost mimic the round, yet, compact shape of a hamburger.
How does the crêperies ode to the Big Mac get the name, Rugby Crêpe? The dish was actually dreamt up by a staff member and created to raise money for a Rugby team ten years ago. Although the dish was originally created as a one-time special, it certainly caught the attention of many and stayed on the restaurant’s menu.
Brussels, Mimosas, and Sweet Endings – Simply Crêpes Favorites
Although The Best Thing I Ever Ate will only feature the Rugby Crêpe, there are so many other dishes that are deserving of media attention, like the crêperie’s Brussels Sprouts, Mimosas, and the Pistachio Chai Crêpe. The Brussels Sprouts with Goat Cheese are one side item that is impossible for me not to order when I dine at the Lafayette Village restaurant. The sprouts are flash fried to a perfect crisp and are tossed with shallots, bacon, and a sweet and tangy balsamic sauce. All ingredients are topped with a creamy chèvre to achieve a delicious bite.
Mimosa fans do not have to wait until next weekend’s brunch to sip on the champagne cocktail. In fact, Mimosa Mondays should not to be missed at Simply Crêpes since all mimosas are 1/2 priced. As well as the traditional champagne cocktail blended with orange juice, the restaurant also offers cranberry and grapefruit juice as alternatives.
One of my favorite desserts at the crêperie is the Pistachio Chai Crêpe. The crêpe is filled with pistachio cream and chai sweetened cream. Two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream and chopped pistachios round out this unexpectedly delicious dessert.

In addition to Simply Crêpes Raleigh location in Lafayette Village, the crêperie has locations in Pittsford and Canandaigua, New York. The Best Thing I Ever Ate was previously filmed in Simply Crêpes Canandaigua location. The episode will be aired on the Food Network on April 8th at 9 PM, EST.
