The best part of making this Strawberry Frosé Recipe is that a fancy Frosé machine is not required. A freezer and 24 hours is all that you need to get this party started!
I have always found Frosé to be synonymous with summer and rooftop bars. While I typically enjoy sampling different variations of frozen Rosé at restaurants and bars, I have been practicing physical distancing at home since March 2020. I have used this time at home to work on some new recipes and improve my cocktail game. As such, I finally experimented with Rosé and other ingredients to create a recipe for one of my favorite summertime cocktails.
Even though this recipe is easy to make, patience is required. The Rosé will need to freeze for 24 hours. While the wine freezes, prepare the strawberry sauce. The purée should be used at a chilled temperature in this recipe. Using the strawberry sauce at a hot temperature will melt the Frosé.
If you are making this recipe for the first time, I recommend using your favorite dry Rosé. I do not recommend using a sweet Rosé since the strawberry sauce will impart sweetness to the frozen cocktail.
For purposes of this recipe, I used a 2017 Scheid Vineyards Pinot Noir Rosé. It’s a lovely wine that I purchased during my trip to Carmel, California last fall. The dry and crisp California Pinot Noir Rosé has bright flavors of ripe strawberries and cranberries, which is perfect for this recipe.
Now that I have shared my suggestions for picking a Rosé, let’s get to the recipe so we can Frosé All Day!
Stawberry Frosé
Ingredients
- 750 ml dry rosé
- 1 cup strawberry sauce
Instructions
- Pour one bottle of rosé into a Tupperware or Ziploc bag . Freeze overnight. Yes, it is that easy.
- For every four cups of frozen rosé, add ½ cup of strawberry pureé to the blender. Blend for 15 seconds or until it is fully mixed. Do not over mix.
- Using a spoon, swirl in an additional ½ cup of strawberry sauce to the blended frosé. Serve in your favorite rosé glass and get ready to Rosé All Day! Garnish each glass with an edible flower or a fresh strawberry. I hope that you enjoy this Strawberry Frosé recipe as much as I do. Cheers!
How to Make the Strawberry Sauce for your Strawberry Frosé
This next recipe will yield a little over two cups of strawberry purée. Although the Frosé requires one cup of the sauce, there are endless uses for the remaining purée. It can be used as a topping for pancakes, ice cream, cheesecake or another batch of Frosé.
Strawberry Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups frozen strawberries
Instructions
- Combine both ingredients into a two quart sauce pan and cook on medium-high heat for ten minutes. Stir frequently so that the sugar and fruit do not burn. Reduce to medium heat and cook for an additional 20 minutes. Stir the fruit intermittently. If fresh strawberries are in season, cook the fruit and sugar on medium heat throughout the whole process for 30 minutes while stirring frequently.
- Remove from the heat source and blend the fruit and sugar mixture using a hand blender. Use caution as the sauce is very hot. After blending, continue to heat the mixture for an additional 5 minutes and remove from the heat source.
- Allow the pureé to cool in the sauce pan for 1-2 hours. Store the strawberry sauce in a new and clean Mason jar. Refrigerate and use as needed. This beautiful sauce is perfect for cocktails, pancakes, ice cream and more!
TOOLS USED IN THIS STRAWBERRY FROSÉ RECIPE:
Although I used strawberry purée in this strawberry Frosé recipe, there are no rules as to what fruit you can and cannot use in a Frosé. Raspberries, mulberries and blackberries would also impart lovely flavors in a Frosé. The possibilities are endless, but will require playing with flavors!
If you are hosting a party, this Strawberry Frosé is your go to gal! I love that the frozen cocktail can be made ahead of time. In fact, you can serve the frosé in glasses and chill in the freezer until your guests arrive. The glasses will boast a beautiful frosty appearance. That said, do not leave your glasses in the freezer for more than 20 minutes. Doing this alone is quite helpful as you will have one less task to worry about as hostess for your next soiree.
