I love Indian Cuisine – Northern, Southern, Vegetarian, Non-Vegetarian – I’m game. The hodgepodge of aromas and flavors of cinnamon, cardamom, tamarind, turmeric, clove, cumin (I can go and on) produce an array of many wonderful dishes that I have become intoxicated with over the years. Living in the Triangle, I have dined at several wonderful Indian restaurants, most of which included buffet lunches and à la carte dinners. Then, along came Masala Wrap, located in Morrisville, NC.
I first visited the restaurant during a YELP event in March where I sampled their chicken tikka wrap, with rice & veggies and their signature Masala Fries. Yes, I said Masala Fries! This is a non-traditional item on their menu which makes a fantastic accompaniment to any wrap, rice or salad bowl. And don’t forget the chutneys! The savory garlic and masala mayo are my favorites dipping sauces for my Masala Fries. Once you taste these fries…well, all other fries are pretty boring.
Masala is unlike any other Indian restaurant in the Triangle in that it offers a unique dining experience that does not include buffets or traditional à la carte dinners. Masala Wrap mirrors the experience one would find in India’s open market places/street food. They offer wraps, salad & rice bowls using quality ingredients that include proteins, vegetables, spices and chutneys in a casual dining environment. I especially appreciate Masala’s ability to cater to vegetarians and vegans. If you do not eat meat and/or dairy, you have options and not just one option. If you are vegan, you have potato and chole (chick peas) as a protein option. Vegetarians have the additional option of egg bhurji (scrambled eggs with special spices). Masala Wrap gives special care in the preparation of their food; Meat and dairy items are never mixed with vegetarian items to respect both vegan and vegetarian diets.
Masala is located in close proximity to RTP which makes it a great place to dine in or pick up for lunch, if you have a tight schedule and can’t get away from the office for an hour. Their lunch special is especially enticing. It includes a ten inch wrap with a small order of Masala Fries for $5.99 (check out their Facebook page for more details). It’s also conveniently located near Cary’s Park West Village Theatre and Morrisville’s Carmike Cinemas for a delicious pre or post movie meal.
Masala is located on 9825 F. Chapel Hill Rd. in Morrisville. They are closed on Mondays, but are open Tuesday through Saturday at 11 am – 9:30 pm and Sundays from noon to 9pm. You can check out Masala Wrap’s menu on their website at http://masalawrap.co/(notice it is .co and NOT .com).
